The Day I Opened Sudoku… and Closed It Right Away
I Just Wasn’t Feeling It
This one’s a bit different.
Normally when I open a Sudoku puzzle, I at least try. Even if I’m tired or not fully focused, I’ll place a few numbers, see how it goes.
But this time?
I opened the puzzle, looked at the grid for maybe 5 seconds… and immediately closed it.
No attempt. No effort. Just “nah, not today.”
It Was Kind of Funny
Nothing Was Actually Wrong
The puzzle didn’t look hard. There was nothing intimidating about it. Just a normal grid, same as always.
But for some reason, my brain just refused to engage.
It’s like when you open something, already knowing you’re not in the mood for it.
I Didn’t Force It
Usually I’d try anyway. Like, “come on, just do a few moves.”
But this time I didn’t.
I just closed it and moved on.
And surprisingly… I didn’t feel bad about it.
The Interesting Part Came Later
After a while, maybe an hour or so, I opened Sudoku again.
Same puzzle.
This time, I actually played.
And guess what?
It felt completely normal.
Same Puzzle, Different Mood
It Was Smooth Again
Numbers started making sense. I wasn’t stuck. I wasn’t forcing anything.
It was just a regular session, like any other day.
Which made me realize something kind of obvious, but easy to forget.
It Was Never About the Puzzle
There was nothing wrong with the grid earlier.
It was just me.
My focus, my mood, my energy—whatever you want to call it—just wasn’t there at that moment.
Why I Think This Matters
I think we don’t notice this enough.
Sometimes we assume something is boring, difficult, or just “not working”… when really, we’re just not in the right state for it.
And instead of stepping away, we push through and make it worse.
Letting It Go Felt Better
What I liked about this situation is that I didn’t force myself.
I didn’t turn it into a chore.
I just accepted, “okay, not now,” and came back later.
And when I did, it worked.
A Small Reminder I Took From This
You don’t always have to push.
Sometimes it’s fine to pause, even for something simple like Sudoku.
Actually, especially for something simple.
Because if it’s supposed to be fun, there’s no point forcing it when it’s not.
Why I Still Keep Playing Sudoku
Because it’s low pressure.
You can pick it up, put it down, come back later, and it’s still there.
No stress, no expectations.
And honestly, that’s part of why I like it so much.
